Public transportation in Budapest

Budapest has a very decent daytime public transportation system (up to cca 11pm) with overnight options. It is extensive, reliable and inexpensive. Fares cannot be paid on board, and there are fines for traveling without a validated ticket. Tickets are valid for one ride only. A new ticket must be used every time you change lines. Tickets can be purchased at the airport, underground stations, hotels, newspaper kiosks and tobacco shops. There are also ticket vending machines at the airport, railway stations, underground stations, stops of major tram lines and many other spots. A comprehensive map showing where you can buy tickets is here. Tickets cost ca. 1.1 Euros. Some special passes are available. You can find more information about tickets and passes here. A map of the main bus, tram and underground lines in the city center is here. For more information, check the homepage of the public transportation company here.

We recommend any of the hotels in the city center. A few hotels within walking distance from the conference venue are marked on the map above. Please contact the hotel of your choice directly or via Renting an apartment by Airbnb is also an option.
Some nearby hotels:
Mercure Budapest Duna
Hotel Gellért
Danubius Hotel Flamenco

International bank cards (Visa, Master, ...) are widely used. Most expenses (taxi, hotel, most restaurants) can be direcly paid by international bank cards. Please ask the availability of bank card payment in advance. Participants with international bank card are still recommended to exchange or withdraw a little (e.g. 15000 HUF/50 EUR) Hungarian Forints (HUF) at arrival. There are several ATMs and exchange kiosks at the airport, at the railway stations and all over the city. (Banks in Hungary are open generally between 9:00 a.m. and 17:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Exchang kiosks are usually open much longer.) Exchange rate is around: 1€ (Euro) = 310 HUF (Hungarian Forint)

Please contact the general chair in case of any visa related issues.
